Basic Trainings & Activity Trainings

The MPC offers Basic Trainings as well as Activity Trainings which can be used to help improve the user experience. Training is not required, but heavily recommended for most of our equipment and spaces.

Basic Trainings are 50-minute introductions to either a piece of equipment or to a space. Basic Trainings are offered on Sundays at specific times and seats are limited. Activity Trainings are Basic Trainings that treach you fundamental skills and then allow you to stick around to use those skills for a specific activity. For more information or to sign up for any of these trainings please visit our MPC LibCalTrainings are on a rotating schedule and must be scheduled in advance.

  • Use Lens and In-Camera Effects
  • Use Long Exposure and Paint with Light

Workshops

Workshops are larger sessions which often train you on a skill and then allow you to make something using that skill. Some Workshops may also take the form of a series where each session will explore a new technique or prompt.  Workshops may also take the form of an "info session" which would be a lecture on a particular topic related to Media Production. Workshops will be reservable on the MPC LibCal page.

Here are a couple examples of the currently offered Workshops:

  • Stop Motion Animation Workshop Series
  • Text to Image AI Workshop Series

Drop-In & Open Studio

Along with the trainings and workshops that the MPC offers, the space is also available for drop-in to work on projects. The MPC is available for drop-in from 12pm-10pm M-Th, and 12pm-6pm Fridays and Sundays. If you drop in during a training or workshop and there is no space available you may be asked to come back at a later time. When at full capacity, MPC users may be asked to limit their stay to no longer than 4 hours.

In additon to the normal drop in, the MPC will have a themed drop in activities. These themed drop-ins will be for people to come by and collaborate on specific projects. Drop-in activites will be first come, first serve. There are 10 seats in the MPC to be utilized during these drop-in times, and it's not required for you to be working on a themed drop in. Here is a list of some of the drop-in activites:

  • Stop Motion Open Studio
