Study Spaces

Overview

Effective Sept 20, 2021, in line with the University's expanding in-person classes and services, the Lemieux Library and McGoldrick Learning Commons will be relaxing swipe-to-study access and resuming guest and alumni access to borrowing and study spaces in the building. Late-evening and weekend access will continue to be reserved exclusively for current SU students, faculty, and staff with a valid SU Campus Card.

Guest and alumni access to borrowing and study spaces in the building is still available from 7:30 - 6pm, Monday - Friday.

Please email Aaron Morgan, Manager Access Services or call 206-296-6235 with any questions concerning building access and hours.

24/7 Spaces

24/7 study spaces are available, including:

  • 1st Floor
    • Garden Reading Room
  • 2nd Floor
    • Byte Café & Bangasser Reading Room
    • Online Research Computer Lab.

Access to 24/7 spaces is limited to current SU students, staff, and faculty. An active SU ID card is required to enter the spaces after hours.

Computer Labs

The Library and Learning Commons houses three computer labs, and laptops are available for checkout at the 3rd Floor Circulation Desk. Computer Labs on the first and second floors are accessible 24/7 to students, faculty, and staff with a valid campus ID card.

Use of these computers is restricted to academic purposes and to Seattle University students, faculty, and staff (a Seattle University network ID and password is required). Computers are available on a first come, first served basis.

Group Study Rooms

Those using the rooms must adhere to this policy and to all Seattle University and Library policies.

The purpose of the Group Study Rooms is to enrich and support academics by providing space for self-directed study groups.

Group Study Rooms are open to Seattle University students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Each room has a corresponding kit of tech materials and supplies that can be checked out at the Circulation Desk on the 3rd floor of the library. Whiteboard supplies are also available at the 2nd floor iDesk.

To assure room reservations, groups should book rooms online through the Seattle University email system. Booking instructions are here.

These rooms are intended to be used for collaborative group study. We encourage individuals who want to study alone to use private study rooms or study carrels located on the 4th and 5th floors. We recommend individual users who want to watch DVDs to use rooms 273 or 274.

Rooms are not intended for recurring classroom instruction, or recurring faculty/staff meetings and will not accept recurring appointments. If faculty need a classroom or recurring meeting space, consult the Registrar or CES.

Rooms 351, 366, and 369 are not Group Study Rooms. They are Instruction Rooms and are reserved for Library and Learning Commons programs.

Study Rooms are not soundproof. Please be conscientious of other patrons in the library and control the volume of conversations and the use of media devices.

Treat equipment and furniture in rooms with care.

At the end of the scheduled time, groups are expected to clear rooms of trash and personal items, clean the whiteboard with the proper supplies, and return tables and chairs to their original positions.

If you would like to cancel a room reservation, delete the reservation on your Outlook calendar and send the update to the room. If you need assistance with this, call 206-296-6446.

Zoom Ready Rooms

There are 49 private study rooms split up between the 4th and 5th floors that are available for joining an online class, a virtual meeting, or attending an online program. Rooms are available during library open hours, and use of these rooms is prioritized for students participating in virtual classes.
