Finding geologic maps online
A good place to start looking for geologic maps online are the search tools created by agencies that produce geologic maps, such as:
- Geologic Information PortalFrom the Washington State Department of Natural Resources
- National Geologic Map DatabaseFrom the United States Geological Survey
You can also search Google for other geologic maps. Here's an example of an effective search phrase:
"geologic map" and "a phrase that describes your geographic area of interest" (create your own phrase)
An example search: "geologic map" and "Kitsap Peninsula"
You may need to try different phrases that describe your area of interest - like the name of the city, county, park, island, mountain, river, etc., near your area. If the area you're searching for is two or more words long, the quotation marks really help the search.
