RESEARCH INSTRUCTION BY CORNISH LIBRARIANS

LIBRARY AND RESEARCH INSTRUCTION FOR STUDENTS If you would like to request research instruction for a specific class or assignment, or to bring your class to the library for a research period, please contact us in advance. We are able to provide your students with the best assistance if you send copies of your syllabi and assignments or post them on Canvas. For more information contact Bridget Nowlin (206) 726-5126.

INSTRUCTOR RESEARCH CONSULTATIONS
For a one-on-one consultation with a librarian to help with your personal research, stop by the reference desk during business hours. You may also e-mail reference questions to: libraryref@cornish.edu or call (206) 726-5145.

RESEARCH GUIDES FOR YOUR CLASS
Librarians can create an online Research Guide specifically for your class.  Contact Bridget Nowlin (206) 726-5126 for more information.

REQUEST TITLES FOR THE LIBRARY COLLECTION

HOW TO REQUEST NEW TITLES Send new title requests to the Library Liaison in your department. If your liaison is not available please contact Bridget Nowlin, 206-726-5126 or bnowlin@cornish.edu. Selection criteria from the Collection Development Policy will apply.

LIBRARY LIAISONS: The Library Liaison is an academic department’s primary representative to the library for collection development input. Among other things, they help coordinate faculty requests for new library materials and update faculty on the library’s budget and order deadlines throughout the year.

To see current liaisons, please visit the Library Liaison Resource Guide.

COURSE RESERVES

Place materials on reserve for your class for either 2 hrs in-library-use, overnight, or 3 day checkout, using our Cornish Library Course Reserves Request Form.  You can see everything currently available on reserve by searching in the Course Reserves section of the Library Catalog

Prior to the semester, items already in the Cornish Library collection will be added to course reserves within one to two business days; this will become three to four business days as the semester begins. Items needing to be purchased can take upwards of one week, depending on item availability and shipping.

Personal copies are always welcome to add to course reserves. If you choose to put personal copies on reserve, please note that we will need to apply adhesive labels to materials, which can damage materials when removed. If it’s something that you do not want labeled, you can discuss alternative labeling options with us, or request that the library purchase a copy.

For questions, contact the Access Services Librarian at (206) 726-5062 or email libraryref@cornish.edu.

HOLDS

PLACING HOLDS ON ITEMS
Most library items can be placed on hold by using your library account in our online catalog, by emailing us or by calling us at 206-726-5145

Items that are not checked out are pulled by library staff twice a day, so that they can be ready for you when you come to pick them up. Items that are checked out will be held for you as soon as they are checked in and you will be notified.

Once an item is placed on hold, you have seven days to pick it up. After that the hold will be removed.

VIDEO AND CD HOLDS FOR CLASS
Ensure that the video or CD you want to show in class will be available. Place holds at least a week in advance by contacting the Library Circulation Desk, (206) 726-5145.
