PICO Overview and Interactive Tutorial

PICO Questions

PICO is a common mnemonic in Health Care research to help researchers form a clinically answerable question:

P - Patient, population or "problem" 

I - Intervention

C - Comparison (if no comparison, C can stand for "control"

O - Outcome

You will sometimes see variations on this:

  • PICOTT:  Type of Question (therapy/intervention/diagnosis etc) and Type of Study
  • PICOT: Timeframe
  • PICOS: Study design
