PEER-BASED STUDENT LEARNING

Learning Assistance Programs provides peer tutoring in a variety of subject areas including math, science, nursing, and foreign languages. Both the tutor and student benefit from this meaningful relationship. LAP offers two forms of tutoring: weekly tutoring and drop-in tutoring.

Weekly tutoring offers students the opportunity to meet with a trained peer tutor for an hour each week for the duration of the quarter. Students need to complete a Tutoring Needs Assessment (TNA) before accessing weekly tutoring.

Drop-in tutoring with peer subject specialists is available on a space-available basis. These single-case, 30-minute appointments are found and booked through TracCloud.

Tutor Blitz information

What is the Tutor Blitz?

The tutoring blitz is offered for several days in the beginning of the quarter. It is a concentrated offering of 1-on-1 appointments where students begin the process of setting up weekly tutoring sessions for the quarter. During their Tutoring Needs Assessment (TNA) appointment, students connect with a staff member to share a more thorough picture of their needs in the specific course, think and talk through how they plan to be successful in the course, and share how tutoring would be most helpful for them. If students are unable to participate in the Blitz, TNA appointments will continue to be available throughout the quarter. The Digital Blitz will be conducted via Zoom. For additional details, continue to explore our website and visit our virtual front desk with any questions!

FAQ

INFORMATION FOR FIRST TIME REGISTRATION

The first step is to complete a Tutoring Needs Assessment (TNA). During the TNA you will share information about your goals for the course and learning preferences that will be helpful for your tutor to know and learn important information about how weekly tutoring sessions work. As a student who is new to tutoring, you will need to sign-up for a TNA appointment on TracCloud.

After completing your TNA, you are eligible to sign up for weekly tutoring on TracCloud. If you are unable to find a tutoring session that works with your schedule, make sure to sign up for the wait-list and provide as many details as possible about your availability.

INFORMATION FOR RETURNING STUDENTS

If you have received tutoring during the last academic year and received a B- or higher in the course you received tutoring for, you may be eligible to complete an assessment form without making an appointment. Contact our virtual front desk by chat, email, or phone for more information.

USING TRACCLOUD

Questions about using TracCloud? Consult our step-by-step TracCloud appointment guide or contact our virtual front desk during office hours, Monday-Friday, 9-5pm.

WEEKLY TUTORING WAITLIST

If no tutoring slots listed work for your availability, you will have the option on TracCloud to sign up for the waitlist. Remember to provide as many details as possible about your availability. The more we know about your availability, the more effectively we can work to find you a tutoring slot. While LAP cannot accommodate all students on the weekly tutoring waitlist, we can steer students toward other campus resources including Individual Consultation Appointments.
